One of the few good things we learnt from the pandemic is that borders don’t exist. And that strong internet connections do.
Yes, events are better in person. Nothing can replace some good old school networking, exchanging business cards, chit chat about the last panel talk you heard. But hey, it’s also pretty fascinating that you can be in the same virtual room with someone who’s on the other side of the world.
The European Research and Innovation days are among the many examples of events that in 2020 decided to take the leap. Last year, over 30.000 people attended the 3-day event. Not being limited to Brussels meant that the event became global.
In 2021 the event will have the same 100% virtual format. As in the previous years, the focus will be on research and innovation and bringing together the general public with policymakers, politicians, scientists. As 2021 marks Horizon Europe’s start, the most ambitious EU research and innovation programme until the date, we can also expect some tips and ideas on what should be tackled in our projects.
And most importantly, events like this remind us that we can all participate and work together for a greener and more sustainable Europe.
“Nothing will happen if people, politicians, institutions do not engage.”
(Mr Pascal Lamy – Chair of the Mission Board on Healthy Oceans, Seas, Coastal and Inland Waters)
